Treasure huntThis took place on 2011-09-03. We sent family groups on a route around the village with an illustrated list of flora and fauna to find and the opportunity to add more discoveries to the list to win a small prize.
This was very successful and enjoyable. We've retained the materials so we can do it again in years to come.
Hedge weekThis was a series of activities organised by the CHAHP taking place from Saturday 2011-10-22 through to Saturday 2011-10-29. These were:
- Hedge Laying Course.
Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd of October 09:00 - 16:00.
- Venue — Upton Cross playing field.
There are still spaces left to join this course which teaches how to lay hedges and would be valuable to builders, landscape gardeners and others interested in the practicalities of hedge laying. The course is free but would normally carry a significant cost.
- Dormouse Workshop.
Monday 24th of October 10:00 - 16:00
- Venue — Upton Cross Hall
Learn how to study Dormice and account for them in surveys and when considering building work. Dormice are protected and attending this course would count as the first stage in obtaining a licence to work with them. Again, this would normally be costly to attend but is free.
- Willow Weaving.
Tuesday 25th of October 10:00 - 16:00
- Venue — St Martins Church Hall, Liskeard
The course is open to families with children over 7 years old; all children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Static Display — Morrisons Liskeard, Wednesday 26th October
- This actually didn't happen.
- The field systems and boundaries of the Cornish landscape.
Thursday 27th October 14:00
- Venue — Millennium Hall, Pensilva
- Birds Of garden & hedgerow.
Thursday 27th October 19:00

Please help us make things happen!

TINThe Miracle Theatre is touring its production of "Tin" in the coming months. See their site for details. The tour starts in Redruth, but it will be at the Sterts Theatre on 17-Apr-2012 through 21-Apr-2012.
TIN related eventsOn Saturday 21st, at 2pm leaving from Minions Heritage Centre:
Iain Rowe will be leading a walk to Phoenix United Mine, where we will be looking at the other end of the spectrum - the actual children, women and men who worked on the mines, and who, although living in near poverty, kept the "mining gentry" in the way they had become accustomed.
Later at 5pm at Sterts it is your opportunity to find out about your ancestry with a unique chance to tap into the knowledge held by members of the Cornwall Family History Society. For beginners or improvers alike - come and pick up some tips from the experts. You never know you may find some mining ancestors!
On Saturday 28th, at 2pm, there is a unique opportunity to visit the Record Office in Truro, have a guided tour of the strong-rooms by Archivist David Thomas, and to look at some of the documents used to find out about the true story behind TIN! For those who have not visited the site before, it is an opportunity to have a close-up look of over 1,000 years of the history of the county laid down by those who were there! There will also be an opportunity to have a behind the scenes look at the massive collection of local mine plans, the largest in the country.
